4 Easy Steps to Promote Your Mixtape Better

This might seem like common sense to some of you, but alot of people still approach me with their music the wrong way. Just so you know what not to do, heres a quick scenario of what I get in emails and twitter messages all the time:

Yung Sneezy: “Download my mixtape(s) im the hottest rapper eva!! I got that crack!”

They leave a link where I can download their mixtape.

Me: looks at message with this face (o_0) and ignores it.

It’s not because I feel like being a a**hole, mainly its because I don’t know who you are, never heard your music and there’s a big chance your wasting my time.

So i’m gonna share a little tip when hittin people up to try to get your music heard. This applies to both internet and the real world so pay attention!!!

STEP 1) Pick the song that grabs everyone (a.k.a the single)

STEP 2) Make it available for anyone to listen to, for free.

If your on the internet it would be sites like youtube, soundclick, zshare, a blog post, etc.

(In real life it would be a ipod or a car system.)

Make sure you pick a site that you can leave a link in the description for anyone to buy/download the album if they choose to.

When choosing where to send them you have a few options:

You can send them to somewhere where you get their information first, to contact them for future projects, shows, etc. Then once they fill in the information let them download your album.

or

You can send them to a store where they don’t give you their contact info and you let them download
your album.

STEP 3) Approach someone who is in your potential target fanbase.

STEP 4) Direct them to where they can listen to your best song for free. (Step 2)

For example, you can say somethin like:

“What’s good you listen to rap? O word? Then you would love my new single, check it out real quick…”

Now if your tracks is hot and their feelin it, they can click on the link you left in the description and cop the album.

(In real life if they like what you showed them on the ipod or in the car system, they’ll support you and cop your cd.)
